vCenter/ESXi registration or edit

Unisphere supports the discovery of vCenters or ESXi servers (using a read-only user) and integrates the information into Unisphere. VMware information is connected to its storage extents, and this enables seamless investigation of any storage-related issues.

You can register a new vCenter/ESXi Server by selecting "Register vCenter/ESXi Server" action in the VMware view or by clicking the link for "Register vCenter/ESXi Server" in the Get Started section (if no servers are added yet).

NOTE: This operation may take a considerable length of time for a large vCenter.

To register a vCenter/ESXi Server instance:

Steps

Select VMware > vCenters and ESXi from the menu bar on the left side of the screen.
The vCenters and ESXi list view is displayed or the Getting Started view is displayed.
Click Register to register a vCenter/ESXI server or select an existing vCenter/ESXI server and click Edit.
Type the fully qualified name or IP address of the server (Server or IP Address).
Type the username used to connect to the server.
Type the password used to connect to the server.
Do one of the following:
- Click Run Now to perform the operation now.
  If a trust issuer cannot be obtained from the server the user has the option to continue non-securely or upload the certificate.
  
  If the trust issuer can be obtained from the server, a dialog displays the vCenter/ESXi server trust issuer. The details are obtained using an SSL connection. The SSLSession Peer Certificate Chain contains the subject, issuer, and fingerprint method.
  
  Click OK to accept the trust issuer or click Cancel to decline the trust issuer.
  
  If the trust issuer is accepted as trusted, an SLL connection is made to the server to obtain the certificate. This certificate file is added to the Unisphere for PowerMax truststore as a .pem file. The file is named with the server name. If run now was selected the job of adding the ESXi/vCenter server runs immediately. If Add to Job List list is selected, the job is added to the jobs list and all connections are made securely.
  
  If the trust issuer is declined, the certificate is obtained or added to the Unisphere for PowerMax truststore. The job does not run.
- Expand Run Now and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.

Results

NOTE: The register operation may take a considerable length of time for a large vCenter.
